The Teachers’ Lounge
When did we as a society stop teaching, learning and demonstrating coping skills? I wish I could say this phenomenon is isolated to children, but sadly it is not. Coping with disappointment begins and ends with adults. Often, children and adults have difficulty when things don’t go their way. I have my hand raised in solidarity with all who struggle with this from time to time.
I’m not referring to the human condition that makes disappointment uncomfortable. I am referring to the rapidly increasing acts of anger and violence as responses to what used to be considered relatively minor occurrences. In the school setting, this has become a deeply rooted norm among students and parents. These events can be quite disturbing.
