FISD Offers Learning Options for the Fall
In the wake of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, Forney Independent School District has released its current plan for school this fall. With the fluidity and uncertainty of the situation, the District will alter these options as necessary based on direction from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the State of Texas.
As of now, Forney ISD will offer two basic options for students: on-site learning and virtual learning. The district website has a breakdown of each of these options at www.forneyisd. net/learningoptions. However a basic overview of the two shows that both scenarios will offer identical curriculum, assignments, opportunities, and teacher interaction. The main differences will exist in location, scheduling, and procedures relating to stopping the spread of COVID-19.
Though there are varying outlines for the different age groups such as elementary, intermediate, etc., all On-Site Learning will attempt to provide as close to the familiar inschool experience as possible while altering and adding various parts of the day to include social distancing and sanitization. Students, Pre-K through 6th grade, will wear facemasks when entering and exiting the buildings, as well as any time that social distancing is not possible. The District is also providing face shields for these grade levels to be worn during activities that do not allow for social distancing, such as group or partner work. Middle School and High School students will be required to wear face coverings any time throughout the day in which social distancing is not possible. Additionally, sanitizing stations will be placed throughout the school buildings, and hand-washing procedures will be taught and reinforced on all campuses.
