Forney Fire Department Takes Delivery of New Fire Truck

On December 21, the Forney Fire Department welcomed a new Engine #1 into service with the time-honored “push-in” and “wash-down” traditional ceremony at Central Fire Station. Each tradition stems from the days when fire departments used hand-drawn equipment. Horses could not easily push the equipment into the stations after a fire call, so firefighters would push the gear back in. The horses were washed down after returning from a call and backed into their stalls until the next call.

This state-of-the-art Spartan Emergency Response Star Series Pumper was built by Metro Fire Apparatus Specialists. The truck features a Waterous 1500 gallons-per-minute pump with a FoamPro foam system, which can store 750 gallons of water and 30 gallons of Class A foam. Why does a fire engine need foam? In many cases Class A foam lowers the surface tension of the water, and aids in fire suppression while also preventing re-ignition in many cases.
