Second ‘Coffee With the Mayor’ held Aug. 5
Mayor Rick Wilson held he second of his “Coffee With the Mayor” public forums last Saturday, Aug. 5 at Alfredo’s on U. S. Highway 80. The public forum, which began at 9:00 a. m., is a way for the Mayor to speak to citizens and for citizens to ask questions of the Mayor. After welcoming everyone Saturday, the first topic Mayor Wilson addressed was the proposed 2017-2018 budget.
The next budget year begins Oct. 1, 2017 and runs through Sept. 30, 2018. Mayor Wilson began by saying that this year’s proposed budget was proposed at $17 million—an increase of approximately $2 million over the current budget. Included in the proposed budget are salary increases, and new hires to accommodate the growth of the city. Capital improvement projects are also included, as well as a CIP employee the city has already hired, whose job is to implement capital improvement projects and to apply for grants for future city projects.
