The way full moons are named depends on what the usual events that occur in that particular month are. For example, the full moon in the month of May is called a”Flower Moon” due to the number of flowers that are blooming in the month. This full moon however is also given the name “Blood Moon” because of its red color in the sky when the full lunar eclipse occurs.
Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), a statewide grassroots environmental and community improvement non-profit organization, recently named Kaufman County a Silver Star Affiliate, a designation granted to only 28 of KTB’s nearly 300 affiliates. Silver Star recognition is the second-highest status any community affiliate can achieve.

There is always excitement when we can watch a Cinderella story unfold and this race was no exception.
Forty years ago, four women pledged to fight hunger in North Texas. These visionary leaders – Jo Curtis, Kathryn Hall, Lorraine Griffin Kircher, and Liz Minyard – began collecting and distributing donations of surplus food and grocery products through a network of charitable organizations across 13 North Texas counties. In doing so, they created The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB).
Kristal Burke of Forney, Texas, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Burke was initiated at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden presents children’s summer camps that spark imagination in STEM and nature from June 6 to August 5, 2022. Designed for students entering first through sixth grades in fall 2022, all camps run Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-3p.m.
At their Regular Meeting held April 28, 2022, the Board of Directors for the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) approved the adoption of three resolutions regarding recommendations from a third-party financial management analysis of the District’s Regional Water System.
