Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center Resumes All Operations

The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is pleased to announce a return to full operational status. Due to the public health situation, TFFC, located in Athens, had limited operations and visitor services since March 2020. During the pandemic, in anticipation of reopening, TFFC personnel utilized the partial closure to focus efforts on renovations and upgrades to enhance the visitor experience.

Federal Red Snapper Season Opened June 1

The private recreational angler red snapper season in federal water opened Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Bag and size limits remain unchanged. The regulations are 2 fish per person daily with a 16-inch minimum size limit in federal waters, and 4 fish per person daily with a 15-inch minimum in state waters. Red snapper caught in federal waters count as part of the state bag limit of 4 fish. No more than 4 red snapper may be in your possession while fishing in state waters and no more than 2 in federal waters.

People affected by crashes causing bodily injury or death involving commercial motor vehicles would find it harder to win damages from companies under a bill that is advancing through the state Legislature.

TPWD Updates List of Texas Species of Greatest Conservation Need

To help facilitate the conservation of Texas’ most vulnerable species, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) recently updated the list of Texas Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). The list is a core element of the Texas Conservation Action Plan, and is a guiding framework for Texas to access more than $50 million annually for SGCN-focused habitat conservation, education and recreation under the proposed Recovering America’s Wildlife Act.

Free Rides to all Vaccination Locations

STAR Transit is providing free rides for persons with confirmed appointment to get the COVID 19 vaccine shots. The curb-to-curb service extends outside of the agency’s service area. Rides are available Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. For this purpose, STAR Transit is temporarily adding Saturday service from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Reservations should be made at least one service day in advance and are based on vehicle availability.
