Homeless Youth and Suicide
For many of us, November is the month of Thanksgiving and the beginning of the holiday season. It is a time when people gather with family and friends to express gratitude and appreciation for the good things in their lives. Families celebrate Thanksgiving as one of the few days of the year they are blessed to have so many loved ones under the same roof. Those less fortunate may spend Thanksgiving in homeless shelters or the cold. A few may receive a traditional Thanksgiving lunch, but many others will go hungry.

Every year, consumer reports to Better Business Bureau (BBB) focused on travel, vacation, or timeshare scams significantly increase during three times of the year – in March during spring break, in July and August during the latter half of summer break, and in December during the holiday traveling season. These three time periods account for 77% of all travel scam losses reported to BBB by Texas residents over the past five years. In the fourth quarter of 2022, 15,000 reports of travel scams to the FTC resulted in $22.6 million in losses.

The Days of the Grant Train
The two best days in the Forney Education Foundation’s year occurred this past week on October 26th and 27th when the Grant Train rolled through the northside on Thursday and the southside on Friday. You may ask why are these the two best days. They are the best because this is when FEF visits the classrooms of the teachers whose grants were chosen and informs them and their class that their requested grants have been funded. Sometimes the announcement is met with tears of joy, but it is always met with huge smiles and thank yous. This year was no different, and every year is special as these dedicated education professionals have oftentimes been to some conference or workshop where they were taught about something new or innovative that can enhance the classroom experience for their students.
