3 Tips to Boost Your Children’s Self-Esteem This School Year

While packing bags and backpacks for school, there’s one essential that may be overlooked: Children’s self-esteem. Although many children may feel confident and selfassured at home, they can feel differently in the classroom. When children have high self-esteem, they’re less likely to reflect negative feelings toward others.

Do you ever meet someone that you instantly connect with and, after visiting a few minutes, it seems as though you have known each other for a lifetime? I’ve found the older I get, the more frequently this occurs. I can spent a minute visiting with a total stranger and usually determine if he or she is a lover of the great outdoors. When I do ‘connect’ with a like-minded person, the talk and stories of past outings usually come fast and furious!

How Old is “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”?

Baseball fans likely know its familiar refrain by heart, and even non-fans can probably identify it the moment it begins playing. “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” has long been part of the fabric of American culture, but even the most ardent fans of America’s pastime may be surprised to learn just how long the song has been around. According to the Library of Congress, the United States Copyright Office first received two copies of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” on May 2, 1908. The song has proven so influential and popular over the years that legendary broadcaster and journalist Walter Winchell once asserted that it embodied the very popularity of the sport by painting the ballpark as an “island of innocent excitement in a world of wild despair.” The song is still routinely played at ballparks across the country, and perhaps no park has become more synonymous with the song than Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. During the seventh inning stretch of each game at Wrigley, fans are led by a celebrity and join in singing the song. That nightly sing-along is widely considered one of the most festive traditions in North American professional sports.

In response to public input, the roadway was also reduced from six to four lanes with the lanes moved away from the residential area to provide a buffer area that includes a hike and bike trail and new screening wall, which extended the trail system to Westover Park.

Teaching for Epiphanies

The whirr of wings when you accidentally flush a bird from its hiding place can startle you and give you pause. The same can be said about watching a student “get it” and understand what the teacher is teaching. The art of teaching is tightly linked to seeing the lightbulb moments when students make a new connection.
