FHS varsity football
The Varsity Forney Jackrabbits made their debut of the season last Friday against the Berkner Rams from Richardson. Being the visiting team didn’t stop the Jackrabbit fans from packing out the stands as family, friends, and football fans traveled to support the team.
The night began with Rams having possession of the ball. The Rabbits’ defense was out in full force, though, stopping the Rams’ first attempts to move the ball. Defensive Back Westin Beeman brought down the Rams’ Quarterback on the second play of the game, resulting in a loss of six yards for the Rams. After a completed pass and a handoff, both runs stopped by 13 Dalbrett Ndzishangong and 21 Greyson Burrus respectively, the Rams were forced to punt.
Forney wasted no time getting down to business. Quarterback Campbell Anderson connected with Wide Receiver Riley McMurren for a 32-yard gain on the Rabbits’ first possession. This was followed by multiple handoffs to Running Back Jayln Phillips driving the ball from the 34 yard line to the 15 yard line over the course of several plays. Anderson, who proved all night long to be a versatile quarterback, then got the first down when he ran the ball for a pickup of about seven yards. At first and goal, 14 Phillips moved the ball to the 5 yard line where Anderson was able to pass the ball to Dylan Amendson for the first touchdown of the game. With the extra point by Kicker Colby Ortega, the score was 7-0 Rabbits with 6:34 remaining in the first quarter.
