Clair McCoy From Griffin Elementary Named to the 2023-2024 Policy Fellowship Cohort for Teach Plus Texas

Teach, Plus, a national teacher leadership organization, has selected 50 demonstrably effective teachers from around Texas for its 2023-2024 Policy Fellowship cohort. The Fellows, all of whom are classroom teachers, will focus on a range of issues of importance to Texas’ students and communities, including equitable school funding, diversifying the teacher workforce, teacher preparation for effective educators, the mental health of educators and students, and highquality instructional materials.

Forney Police Make Injury to a Child Arrests

On the morning of Friday, September 1st, the Forney Police Department responded to a local elementary school within the Forney ISD in reference to an injury to a child investigation. Officers were able to establish that the injuries were severe and occurred recently. Due to the injuries, the child was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment. With the assistance of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, the Forney Police were able to secure the safety of the child and others within the household. The investigative efforts of the Forney Police Department led to the successful arrest of the two suspects in the case and the execution of a search warrant for the residence.

New Military Parklands Passports Give Veterans, Service Members New Options to Enter Texas State Parks for Free

Thanks to a recent bill passed during the last legislative session, active-duty military, honorably discharged veterans and the immediate family members of a service member who died while serving now qualify for one of three new Parklands Passports. These passports are available at no cost and grant the cardholder free entry to all Texas State Parks.

Terrell Man Sentenced to 42 Years for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon

District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley announced today that a Kaufman County jury has found Defendant, STARSKY LEMON HOLMES, 40 years old, guilty of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Enhanced and sentenced him to 42 years in the Texas penitentiary before the Honorable Judge Shelton Gibbs in the 422nd District Court of Kaufman County.

Mr. Shannon Jacobs Receives Award

Congratulations to Mr. Shannon Jacobs for receiving The Foundation for Music Education Award for private music educator in percussion. The Foundation for Music Education is a state wide organization dedicated to the support and advancement of music education. Mr. Jacobs is one of many private instructors working one on one with Forney Middle School and High School students. The Foundation recognized his excellence in private teaching by being the sole recipient of this state wide award. Mr. Jacobs started teaching private lessons in Forney in 2006. Mr. Jacobs, working along side Forney High School Percussion Director, Riley Warren, has helped grow the Forney High School Percussion Section into a nationally recognized ensemble. Last year the ensemble was enlisted to perform at the 2022 Percussive Arts Society International Convention and this year they will be showcased at the Midwest clinic and convention in Chicago.
