With the holidays now behind us, teachers and students have returned to school with a renewed focus on STAAR testing that is just around the corner in the Spring. Anxiety is on the rise among administrators, teachers and students. Administrators want campus and district scores to shine. Teachers do well with recognition and raises if their students do well on the test. Interestingly, students rarely get any recognition when they pass the STAAR test. The outcomes seem to be more about the staff than students. The perceived importance of the STAAR test is often fed to students through their teachers’ anxiety.
