With Ultra-low Rates, Should You Still Invest in Bonds?

If you’ve been investing for many years and you’ve owned bonds, you’ve seen some pretty big changes on your financial statements. In 2000, the average yield on a 10-year U.S. Treasury security was about 6%; in 2010, it had dropped to slightly over 3%, and for most of 2020, it was less than 1%. That’s an enormous difference, and it may lead you to this question: With yields so low on bonds, why should you even consider them?

ACROSS THE PECOS FOR MULE DEER

Standing on the side of a mountain on the Eason Ranch, way out in Pecos County, I found myself somehow caught up in a time warp as I glanced across the vastness of distant mountains, just as the morning sun began to light them up. The day before, during the middle of the day after the morning hunt for mule deer, John Eason had given my friends Jeff Rice, Larry Weishuhn and I a tour of some of the ancient campsites that were scattered throughout the ranch. The feeling is difficult for me to describe but I felt almost as though the ‘ancients’ as Mr. Eason refers to inhabitants of his ranch many years ago, were calling out to me through the years. I’m sure my buddies were probably experiencing the same feelings.

Representative Keith Bell Files Election Integrity Bill 1264

State Representative Keith Bell (R - Forney) filed House Bill 1264 requiring the removal of a registered voter off the certified voter roll immediately after a death certificate is submitted. Currently, there is a delay in the reporting of deaths to the Texas Secretary of State, giving individuals the opportunity to cast fraudulent votes for those who are deceased. This opportunity should not exist.

Gilligan’s Island aired for 98 episodes, beginning on September 26, 1964, and ending on April 17, 1967, and the 1st season’s productions were filmed in black-andwhite! The show revolved around seven “castaways,” as dissimilar as could be, and their attempts to survive on an island upon which the shipwrecked crew had been “washed,” shaken but unhurt! In following episodes they also had several attempts to escape their plight, but the crew members were “always” unsuccessful, which was often blamed upon Gilligan, the star of the cast! However, he quite often was the one who in the end saved one or more of the others from some catastrophic flaw in their plans! (The trip began in Honolulu, shipwrecked as result of a typhoon, somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, in uncharted waters.) As with many shows/movies today, the group, “unmatched” with each other in most ways, had to learn to not only “get along well” but also to work together to survive and possibly be later rescued.

JAMES BOND, he was not!

Have you ever heard of GEORGE BLAKE? Well neither had I, as far back as I can remember, but I heard an announcement the other day on some internet news station that made me hit the “rewind” button and then listen more closely. He was a former MI6 officer, who worked as a double agent for the Soviet Union, and he had just died at age 98. “Yes, me, too!” I thought that double agents lived very dangerous lives and died young when they were discovered! At least, that is what I saw in movies and read about in novels.
