For many of us, November is the month of Thanksgiving and the beginning of the holiday season. It is a time when people gather with family and friends to express gratitude and appreciation for the good things in their lives. Families celebrate Thanksgiving as one of the few days of the year they are blessed to have so many loved ones under the same roof. Those less fortunate may spend Thanksgiving in homeless shelters or the cold. A few may receive a traditional Thanksgiving lunch, but many others will go hungry.

Texas Regional Bank (TRB) has opened a Loan Production Office (LPO) in Forney, TX. The office is under the leadership of James Huggins, East Dallas Regional Market President. The establishment of the LPO in Forney is a key step in TRB’s ongoing efforts to expand its services and reach across the East Dallas Region.

For the eighth year in a row, Forney ISD has received an “A” rating for “Superior Achievement” from the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). The rating system measures the quality of school district financial management and reporting systems.

The housing market always has its ups and downs, and home renovations appear to be hitting some record highs in the last few years. With more people staying home to work, relax and play, many homeowners have chosen to renovate rather than move to a new home to obtain their dream house and have it work better for their family. Texas quail hunting season opened Oct. 28, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) surveys indicate an increased number of bobwhite and scaled quail in the field thanks to a combination of cooler temperatures and spring rainfall during the start of nesting season.

The State Fair of Texas recently awarded ribbons to winners in the creative arts competition. Several items were included in the sewing and needlework category from the Forney area. In the Junior division Second place award went to Macie Reeves and Third place to Kiana Gaines. In the Adult division second place awards went to Kari Campbell, third place to Kelly Lopez, Paula Smith and Connie Taylor. Honorable Mention to Janet Stone. Also entering was Becca Howard. All are students of local sewing teacher Dian Wade. Winning items were displayed in the Creative Arts building during the fair.

Fall is marching season for the high school band. They march every Friday night during half-time at the football games. There are also a host of other marching competitions scattered throughout the season.
